Words With Friends Saves Lives

We all know that technology connects people. It gives us the ability to talk to people across the globe. But we think very little about how these connections can actually save lives. One very interesting story about people being connected across the globe is about a couple from Missouri and a couple from Australia.

Beth Legler, a woman from Missouri, and Georgie Fletcher, a woman from Australia,  began playing Words With Friends with each other through random chance. After stressful days at work, they both said playing Words With Friends helped them relax. They began playing each other every day after work. Their friendship blossomed, and they began emailing and Skyping every day. This friendship became very strong, and eventually saved Georgie from being a widow.
During their conversations, Georgie revealed that her husband had collapsed and been in and out of the hospital the past year. She told Beth his symptoms, knowing she was an RN, and this saved her husband’s life. Beth’s husband is a doctor, and after Beth told him about Georgie’s husband, he soon realized he had a life-threatening blockage in his heart. “Dr. Larry Legler believed it could actually be angina.” It was a 99% blockage.
After everything died down, Georgie was quoted saying, "All of this technology can serve the good or the evil and where you choose to go with that is really a personal decision, " she said. "But it does say, one person can make a difference. That game means more to us than it could ever mean, a starting off point for a friendship that will last for all time for the four of us. The goal for us is to meet."
